Our water heater broke almost two weeks ago, and because of crazy work schedules and the fourth of July holiday, we weren’t able to get it fixed until yesterday afternoon. All that said, it was a bit of a trick figuring out how to bathe and do dishes without any hot water in the house.
Thankfully, we were able to utilize our YMCA membership and the generous offer from a neighbor to use their shower while they were away on vacation. This experience, while inopportune, made me appreciate the modern conveniences that I often take for granted. It also reminded me of how blessed I am to have friends and neighbors who are willing to lend a hand, or a shower, in a time of need.
As much as I appreciated alternative options, I’m not going to lie, when I turned on the faucet this morning to take a shower in my OWN bathroom, and I felt that hot water flowing over my fingers… I did a little happy dance. And I kid you not, the words that popped into my head were: “Praise God from whom all blessings flow.”
(I may or may not have belt out the Doxology Hymn in the shower a few times, just for fun. I mean come on… the acoustics in the bathroom are to die for! )
Here’s the thing, life will always be full of little inconveniences, but there are so many more blessings to be found. We just have to look for them! “Praise God from whom all blessings flow…”
What can you thank and praise God for today?
Psalm 9:1 “I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18: “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
